February 11 - In connection with the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, the International Scientific Forum "Women Chemists - 2023" was held at the Tashkent Institute of Chemical Technology

The Festival “Women in STEM”* (Scientific Week “Women Engineers-2023”), aims to popularize the significant results achieved by women scientists in the Republic of Uzbekistan and foreign countries, encourage interest in the engineering and chemical sciences from the age of 0 +, increasing the interest of schoolgirls in studying exact sciences and the active involvement of young womens in science and education, the widespread involvement of the potential of women and young girls in scientific and innovative activities, further development of the “Master-Student” system, expanding the scope of ongoing work to support women and further increasing their authority in cultural and educational, political and economic activities.



Within the framework of the Festival“Women in STEM”, a Scientific Forum “Women Chemists-2023” and Round Tables with young women scientists “Women Engineers 0+” will be organized with master classes by leading experts and scientists from regions such as Asia, Africa and the Middle East, Central and South America, Europe, North America, as well as artistic and musical performances by chemistry and engineering students, stories about the achievements of talented students of the institute, questions and answers, discussions for schoolgirls. The participants will be addressed by women who have achieved success in professions traditionally considered male, and those present will also discuss topical issues of STEM education.

In the resolution “Science, technology and innovation for development”, adopted by the UN General Assembly on December 20, 2013, mentioned that “the equal and full use of science, technology and innovation by women and girls of all ages is a guarantee of gender equality.” In plenary session on December 22, 2015, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution declaring February 11 as the “International Day of Women and Girls in Science.” Thus, this day has become one of the international days of the UN.



Events of the Festival «Women in STEM (Women Engineering Science Week 2023) contributes to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals “Ensuring gender equality and empowering all women and girls” (Goal 5: Gender Equality), which is one of the 17 goals in the field of sustainable development set by the UN for the period up to 2030.



The 2030 Global Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), adopted by world leaders at the UN Summit in 2015, provide a roadmap for achieving sustainable progress, with gender equality and empowerment women is an integral part of each of the 17 goals. Only by ensuring that the rights of women and girls are respected across the Goals can equity and inclusion be achieved and economies that work for all and preserve the environment for future generations can be achieved.
