The event, which was held in Uzbekistan and Central Asia to increase the position of women working in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) in society, to increase young people's interest in natural and exact sciences, and to encourage female scientists, was actively attended by students of the Academic Lyceum of the Tashkent Institute of Chemical Technology, students of the Presidential School in Tashkent, "Target International School" (Istrikhakat Branch), 10th and 11th grade students of Secondary School No. 148 (Russian and Uzbek groups), school teachers, and representatives of international and academic partner universities.
The international forum was opened with introductory remarks by the Head of the Department of "Development of Science and Innovations" of the Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan for "Family and Women", Head of the "Center of Women Inventors" of Uzbekistan, Professor Norqulova Karima Tukhtabayevna, Advisor to the Chairman of the Board of JSC "Uzkimyosanoat" Abdurakhmonova Sanobar Makhammadaminovna, and Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs of the Tashkent Institute of Chemical Technology Safarov Toyir Tursunovich.
After that, Anna Ambrozevich, head of Women in Tech Uzbekistan, Safina Teshabayeva, representative of the largest STEM non-governmental and non-profit organization in Uzbekistan, and Mushtariybegim Khoshimova, coordinator of the Tashkent Institute of Chemical Technology, Chemical Engineering “Kizlarjon” club, participated with their presentations.
During the event, students from the school and the academic lyceum of the Tashkent Institute of Chemical Technology competed in small groups in drawing with acrylic paints on an Eco-bag through a master class that taught STEM and SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals), as well as making paper clay-wax figures.
The chemistry department faculty demonstrated interesting chemical reactions to visiting students.
It is worth noting that the “Future STEM Stars” event provides a great opportunity to meet women scientists, celebrate their achievements, expand professional networks, learn from each other, and discuss issues such as supporting women in academia, industry, and government.
To make the event more interesting, blitz questions were asked.
At the end of the event, all active and talented students and teachers were awarded certificates and souvenirs.
